By 9:30 a.m. on September 19, a cohort of foreign journalists in Kunming for the 2025 Media Cooperation Forum on Belt and Road stepped onto the Dianchi Greenway. Breeze rustled through the reeds, birds skimmed over the water, and the group began their in-depth exploration of Kunming’s integrated ecological and industrial development.

“A provincial priority project, the Dianchi Greenway spans 137 kilometers and features thirteen signature boardwalk bridges themed as “Colorful Yunnan Bridges.” Along the lake, biodiversity has rebounded: Wetland vegetation coverage has climbed from 13.1% in 2007 to roughly 81% today, with plant species rising from 232 to 303, and bird species from 89 to 175.The population of native fish has recovered to six species, and more than 16 nationally protected rare, endangered, and conserved bird species are now frequently observed in and around the lake.

作為云南省重點工程，滇池綠道全長137公里，設(shè)計了以“七彩云橋”為主題的13座特色棧橋。據(jù)了解，昆明滇池湖濱生物多樣性顯著提升。環(huán)滇池濕地植被覆蓋率從2007年的13.1%提升到現(xiàn)在約81%，植物物種從232種增加至303種，鳥類從89種增加至175種，土著魚類恢復(fù)至6種，16種以上國家級珍稀、瀕危和保護鳥類在滇池及湖濱活動。

瑞典《新日報》高級編輯艾薩克·博曼給自己買了一朵繡球花。Isac Boman, a senior editor at Sweden’s Nya Dagbladet bought himself a hydrangea stem.

“The group of international journalists then boarded a sightseeing tram to the Water Bridge. Stretching 1,116.84 meters, the bridge features a gradient of red to orange and glides above the wetlands of Dianchi Lake like a rainbow arching over the water. At one end lies the ancient Wolong Fishing Village with its traditional white walls and gray-tiled roofs; at the other, the rustic fields and rural scenery of Jiangwei Village. The structure beautifully connects the natural charm and cultural heritage surrounding Dianchi Lake.

“Wilson Zhu, Special Advisor at Denmark’s Copenhagen Post, was particularly impressed: “Walking along the Dianchi Greenway this morning, what struck me most was how much it felt like being back in Denmark. Both my colleague Isac and I agreed that the atmosphere here closely resembles the Nordic way of life—pure nature, with minimal artificial embellishment.”

By midday the delegation reached Dounan to tour the China Dounan Flower Exhibition Hall, a 1,365.3-square-meter pavilion narrating four decades of metamorphosis, from “a field of flowers” to “the Flower Capital of Asia.”

隨后，外媒記者們抵達斗南，參觀中國斗南花卉展覽館。這座現(xiàn)代化展館占地1365.3平方米，系統(tǒng)呈現(xiàn)斗南從“一片花田”到“亞洲花都”的40年蝶變。

“I learned this is one of Asia's largest flower trading hubs,” Bhandari emphasized. “Nepal has ample land for floriculture. As close neighbors and friends with geographical proximity, there is much we can learn from China’s expertise and technological experience in this field."

In 2024, Dounan traded 14.176 billion stems of flowers, with turnover of 11.574 billion yuan, ranking first in China by both volume and value for twenty-five consecutive years. Its cut flowers are exported  to more than fifty countries and regions, including Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and Russia, making it Asia’s largest cut-flower  trading market.

2024年，斗南的花卉交易量達141.76億枝，交易額達115.74億元，交易量和交易額連續(xù)25年保持全國第一。鮮切花出口日本、新加坡、泰國、越南、俄羅斯等50多個國家和地區(qū)，成為亞洲第一大鮮切花交易市場。

The afternoon shifted to Dounan. Inside the Flower Auction Center, the numbers on the electronic clock fell in a rush; the average deal closed in four seconds. The Dutch-style descending auction left the foreign reporters wide-eyed.

丹麥《哥本哈根郵報》特別顧問 Wilson Zhu 威爾遜?朱給妻子買了永生花作為禮物。Wilson Zhu, a special adviser at the Copenhagen Post bought a preserved fresh flower as a gift for his wife.

"I spoke with traders," said Wilson, "Their entire process is backed by internal databases that auto-calculate rational price bands—no manual math. This kind of scientific management scales. “I’ve heard this is the world’s second-largest flower market, and it certainly lives up to its reputation.”

On the floor of the Dounan Flower Market, abundance crowded the aisles: daily, 117 categories and more than 1,600 varieties change hands. Prices stay startlingly low—a handful of sunflowers for 10 yuan, lilies for 15, roses for 10.

走進斗南花卉市場，琳瑯滿目的鮮花讓人應(yīng)接不暇。這里每天有117個品類、1600多個品種在此交易，價格也很便宜——一把向日葵10元、一把百合15元、一把玫瑰10元……

“The moment I stepped into the market, I was enveloped by the fragrance of countless flowers. An overwhelming and beautiful symphony of scents that I will remember for the rest of my life,” exclaimed Leila Atitallah, Director of Tunisia’s Voice of Africa Radio. “I bought a bouquet for myself as well! It's not just a souvenir, moreover, it's a living memory of Kunming.”

According to data, over 80% of Yunnan's cut flowers, along with significant volumes from neighboring provinces and countries, are traded at the Dounan Flower Market and exported to more than 50 countries and regions. Every day, approximately 800 to 1,000 tons of fresh cut flowers are distributed across China via logistics networks, accounting for over 70% of the national market share.

數(shù)據(jù)顯示，云南省80%以上的鮮切花和周邊國家、省份的花卉在斗南入市交易，出口50多個國家和地區(qū)。每天約800噸至1000噸的鮮切花通過物流發(fā)往全國各地，在全國鮮切花的相對市場份額超過70%。

The coordinated ecological and industrial development in Kunming has drawn high praise from international journalists. Yawar Abbas, Director of the Chinese News Service at Pakistan's Associated Press of Pakistan, remarked: “This is an exemplary model of urban planning! Kunming demonstrates outstanding governance vision. Everywhere we went, we observed meticulous maintenance, each detail is supported by a professional team.” He went further: “Pakistan has many cities, but Kunming is different. It should be a global benchmark for environmental governance. Anyone who wants to contribute to the environment should come to see how the Chinese government protects ecosystems.”

Armand Essogo, Director of the Douala Bureau of Cameroon Tribune, recognized clear opportunities for collaboration: “We hope to learn from this integrated industrial model that transforms flowers into sustainable income, creating greater wealth, expanding markets, and providing opportunities for the unemployed. At the same time, it could open new perspectives on trade among Global South countries.”

At 5 PM, the Dounan Flower Market remained bustling with visitors, and the scent of fresh blooms filled the air. Yawar Abbas, a journalist from Pakistan, paused at one of the stalls, admiring a bunch of double-petaled lilies. A gentle smile spread across his face as he remarked, “My wife loves growing this kind of flower at home too.”

As sun set, the international media delegation concluded their day’s itinerary and gradually departed by coach. Yet the story of Kunming, the Spring City, continues to unfold. Back in the Dounan Flower Market, tens of thousands of blooms were concluding their final transactions, soon to be dispatched to destinations around the world, including the very countries these journalists fly back to.

夕陽西下，外媒記者們結(jié)束了一天行程，乘坐大巴緩緩駛離，但昆明這座春城的故事仍在繼續(xù)。而在斗南花市，成千上萬枝鮮花正在完成最后的交易，即將去往世界各地，包括這些記者即將返回的國度。
